With no links to the mainstream musical industry or signed to any record label, LUIS CANO is a truly independent musician and producer that very few people have ever heard of. A tireless singer-songwriter and skilled improviser, Luis performs and records whatever he wants whenever he wants, making his music unique and always surprising.
Classically trained on the piano by Spanish pedagogue Miguel Gomis, Luis started writing songs at a very young age using only a tape recorder and his beloved upright piano creating his own home made “Mix Tapes” of original material.
Whilst studying Music Teaching at university, in the 90’s Luis formed part of the emerging Madrid’s funk music scene with the band “Jungla Sonora” and at his early 20’s played at the first Jazz Festival of Tunis with the “Francisco Molina Trio”. Since then he has formed part of many different musical projects around the world including music for film and all kinds of music teaching. Many of Luis’s former students and collaborators are now part of different successful bands and formations worldwide.
Luis resides currently in London where he has collaborated, played with and learned from some of the best performers, songwriters and session musicians of both the UK and the international music scene.
From 2007 to 2011 Luis released numerous albums under the name “LUIS” including “The Trip” and “Songs From The Hill” available digitally until he decided to re-start his solo career by withdrawing all his work from the net and coming back as “LUIS CANO”. His farewell to the “just Luis” brand were the releases of the singles “Broken Promises” in 2013 and “Red Car” in 2014 (the later appearing in the forthcoming album of the same year “Music”, published under the name Luis Cano)
In 2014 Luis released his solo album “MUSIC” (available now in all major digital platforms) featuring the fans favourite single “Magic”. “MUSIC” is a mixture of new material and old songs completely re-arranged and three of its tracks (“Magic”, “Sunday” & “She’s Lonely”) were Commended Entries at the UK SONGWRITING CONTEST in 2015 on the Rock, Singer-Songwriter & Acoustic & Folk categories respectively.
Since 2010 he also worked & performed alongside musicians/songwriters Fernanda Balata & Michael Rodwell in the original formation RIVERBIRD releasing their EP “Riverbird” (2015). It was recorded at Rubycue studios in London alongside prestigious engineer Nicholas Hunt (Boy George, Placebo, George Clinton)
2015 also saw Luis involved in the production of the brand new album from the iconic Australian rock band “Moving Pictures” called “Picture This” now available worldwide. After this release, Moving Pictures started a very successful come-back tour in Australia. Luis has collaborated with the band’s singer, Alex Smith, in many different projects through the years involving performing, writing and arranging as well as educational projects. Alex, Luis & Michael Rodwell (from Riverbird) toured in pubs around London as “The Interpreters” in 2008-2010 performing Alex’s original material alongside heartfelt renditions of blues, soul and rock classics.
As a surprise for his fans, Luis dropped a 4 track EP called “December” at the end of 2015 recorded with Nicholas Hunt yet again. “December” is an honest and smooth soul/jazz treat recorded using mainly analogue keyboards including clavinet, rhodes and hammond organ…
Two exclusive tracks have appeared on Bandcamp at the beginning o f 2017 (the dark electronic "Death Of The Sad Man" & the groovy free download "Only Yourself Can Change The World").
Luis is currently working on "THE FUTURE", his next solo release due at the end of 2017. Three singles anticipating the release, "Courage", featuring Portuguese singer ISA ,the 80's funk track "Sister" and the electronic influenced "Special" featuring Colombian writer and poet Virginia Higuera are already available in all major digital stores.
